The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Suya seller simply identified as Abdullahi for allegedly attempting to slaughter a four-year-old girl for Suya. Abdullahi, who abducted the four-year-old in an open field at White sand, Ebute Meta area of the state, took her to a secluded area where he had attempted to slaughter her with a knife. However, a passerby who saw Abdullahi raised alarm which attracted people and the suspect was apprehended. In an attempt to resist being caught, the suspect was said to have stabbed one person. Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, told journalists that Good Samaritans succeeded in rescuing the victim from the grip of the suspect. Traditional rulers in Lagos State on Thursday led a walk by the people against the crime on the Lekki-Epe Expressway and major streets in the area. The rulers — Olu of Epe, Oba Sefiu Adewale and the Oloja of Epe, Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun — who displayed placards with the inscriptions, “Say No to r*pe, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse”, called on the authorities to put an end to the crimes. The monarchs said they were incensed by all forms of gender-based violence in the community and the state, insisting that the full weight of the law must be slammed on perpetrators of s*xual crimes. Security personnel including Police, State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), the Nigeria Legion and members of the National Youth Service Corps, also participated in the walk.
