Buhari Writes National Assembly On Resumption Of Duties

President Muhammadu Buhari has written officially to the National Assembly notifying them of his resumption of duties starting from today, Monday, August 21st, 2017. The letter claimed that President Buhari had returned to duties from a "medical follow-up" in London.  President Buhari was absent from duties for at least 103 days prompting protests led by popular musician Charles Oputa aka "Charly Boy" asking him to resume or resign. In line with constitutional provision, President Muhammadu Buhari has written the National Assembly, notifying the legislature of his return to office, after returning from medical vacation in London.

President Buhari had returned to the country on Saturday, August 19, 2017, and in a letter dated August 21, 2017, he told the Senate as well as the House of Representatives, that he was resuming office.

The letter stated in part: "In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I write to intimate that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, 21st August, 2017, after my medical follow-up in the United Kingdom."

President Buhari had left for London on May 7, 2017, and handed the reins of government to the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who functioned as the Acting President.

Appeal Court Sacks Rivers PDP Senator

Appeal Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Senator George Sekibo challenging the judgment of the Rivers State National Election Tribunal which removed him as Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District. The Appellate Court held that the appeal lacked merit as it did not show facts as to why the decision of the lower court should be set aside. The three-man panel of the Appeal Court held that the ousted lawmaker only reproduced his closing remarks at the end of the hearing at the tribunal, but did not challenge the decision reached by the tribunal. I am ready for re-arrest – Nnamdi Kanu tells Buhari

Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has replied President Muhammed Buhari over the call for his re-arrest. In a statement reacting to the President.
